This research falls within the fields of sociolinguistics and cultural contact. The project behind this study stems from the observation that the perceptions of ordinary Brazilian migrants regarding France and the French were often overlooked. In this thesis, we examine the social perceptions of four female migrants of Brazilian origin who work as housekeepers in the Paris region. In this research, we focus particularly on the stereotypes about France conveyed by Brazilian soap operas, or telenovelas. Based on a group interview with the participants, we sought to understand their perceptions and how their views of France had evolved before and after their arrival in the country.
