This book explores the eco-friendly 'green' synthesis of silver nanoparticles using plant extract, which contains ascorbic acid that acts as both a reducing and capping agent. By adding this extract to silver nitrate solutions, the researcher observed a distinct color change to wine-red after incubation, signaling the formation of nanoparticles via surface plasmon resonance. Comprehensive characterization using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) confirmed the production of spherical, nano-crystalline silver particles with desired size and shape. Structural and elemental validation was further provided by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), which identified standard facets of silver, and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), which verified the elemental composition. Finally, antibacterial testing using the disc diffusion method demonstrated that these biologically synthesized nanoparticles effectively inhibit the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, suggesting significant potential for future applications in medicine, textiles, and advanced electronics.
