Scottish Seafarers at Home and Abroad, 1550-1850

This book identifies the shipping links used by Scottish merchants and later by settlers to trade a wide range of manufactured goods and raw materials among ports between Scotland, England, Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. Data is derived from the Scottish Port Books, the records of the High Court of the Admiralty of Scotland, Scottish journals, and contemporary Scottish newspapers. Most seafarers were engaged in merchant shipping; however, a few pirates or privateers, whalers, and slave traders are also listed.
