The Coming of Christ and the Hailing of Hitler

As Nazi Germany redefined the church's understanding of messiah, community, and destiny, Karl Barth climbed into the pulpit and proclaimed another Lord. The Coming of Christ and the Hailing of Hitler explores Barth's preaching during Hitler's meteoric rise to power. These seven newly translated sermons, framed within the political, ecclesial, and theological context, not only exemplify how Barth confronted a church coalescing to power, but inspire preachers to boldly step into the pulpit, to speak truthfully in every age of crisis. Preaching itself is an act of defiance.
