Artikelbeschreibung

The study was conducted with the aim of assessing thermal comfort in cattle during the morning and afternoon shifts in the dry season of the semi-arid region of Piauí, based on evaluations of the physiological parameters of the animals (young x adult) of Dutch x Gir crossbreeds. Six calves and ten crossbred cows were used for the evaluations. The design used was completely randomised with two treatments and nine replicates. However, it can be seen that the physiological characteristics showed (P<0.05) for the sweat rate (SR) for both young animals (92.54 and 101.04) and adult animals, in the morning and afternoon shifts (90.94 and 104.69), respectively. Another variable that stood out with a significant difference was respiratory rate (RR), with the following values (49.50) in the morning and (44.87) in the afternoon for adult animals, while for young animals they were (55.88 and 43.11 in the morning and afternoon shifts, respectively). Overall, the environmental variables (TA, UA, ITGU1 and ITGU2) all differed significantly between the morning and afternoon shifts. However, it can be noted that these animals experience some thermal discomfort throughout the day.
