The rise of an historical-critical approach to the Bible was a great challenge for the Protestant principle of sola scriptura. In this work, Jörg Lauster shows how Protestant theology, starting with Schleiermacher, reacted to this and which transformations the Protestant scriptural principle has undergone through the application of historical exegesis up to the present time.
