Gitanjali

The prose-poems that won the first Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to Asia.Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali-"song offerings"-is a garland of devotional prose-poems the poet translated himself from the Bengali: songs of longing for the divine, of the little reed-flute filled with music, of the boat that carries us home across the dark river. W. B. Yeats, who wrote the famous introduction, said he carried the manuscript everywhere and read it on trains for fear a stranger would see how much it moved him. This Lightbound Library edition presents Tagore's Gitanjali together with poems from The Gardener, in the author's own English, behind an original painting by Jessica von Braun, published by Solocosmo Press.
