Artikelbeschreibung
Among the biblical epics of late antiquity, Claudius Marius Victorius' Alethia stands out for its in-depth engagement with the didactic poem. Drawing on the retelling of Genesis 1-19, Victorius develops - alongside epic scenes and exegetical commentaries - a doctrine of the origin of the world and culture that makes his work a counterpoint to Lucretius. This edition translates the difficult Latin text into German hexameters for the first time.
